This is the inaugural exhibition of Southeast Campus student photography. Students explored a variety of themes and technical aspects resulting in a layered and challenging exhibition. Our juror for this competition is Arthur Fields.
Fields is a noted Dallas photographer and educator. He is currently an Associate Professor of Art at Dallas College, teaching photography and design courses. His works have been included in exhibitions at venues throughout the country, including the University of Southern Indiana (Evansville, IN), Box13 ArtSpace (Houston, TX), Weitman Gallery (St. Louis, MO), PhotoPlace Gallery (Middlebury, VT), and the California Institute of Integral Studies (San Francisco, CA).
Aubree Dale: Resetting the Pace
The show centers around the trappings and joys of domestic life, habit and the pursuit of the elastic mind.
Aubree Dale uses painting as a means of preliminary world building, exploring complex social structures and place. Maximalist ecosystems reference both expansive places of natural beauty and much smaller worlds such as a patio or backyard. They hint at long-term relationships, the capacity for loneliness and what happens when our ambitions exceed our resources.
From there, smaller works enrich and complicate storylines. Stacked with unfinished projects, consumption, and daydreams, these are snapshots of a memory, a wish, an inquiry into an imagined place or alternative scenario. Many of these works bask in the wonder of my small home-life, attempting to work through feelings of stagnation and overwhelm, by making micro macro.
Tally Up!
Intrigued by the detail in old bank books, slave ship inventories, and pay stubs—many lacking personal identifiers—Michelle Johnson created Tally Up!, an exhibit exploring how people have been dehumanized by reducing them to numbers throughout history and into today's digital age.
